Hi,

After a lot of nagging from various quarters, I have decided to give this blogging lark a go. I know, I know, I’m late to the party, but you’ll have to forgive me as my spare time is at a premium these days. Not only do I have a baby on the way (it could conceivably make an appearance as I type), but my day job and my fiance, not to mention my dogs and sport, all take up a lot of my time. I may blog about some of these things from time to time by way of a change but here, I plan to devote my attention to my number one love…music. In particular, rock and metal.

I currently write for the UK-based rock & metal magazine, Powerplay, a hobby I have enjoyed for six years or so to date. As a failed musician, it has given me the opportunity to participate in an industry that I absolutely adore, hopefully giving something back in the process. Over the years I have had many wonderful experiences and have met some incredible people. Someone once said that you should never meet your heroes in person. Well, I have and I’ve never regretted it for a second. The thing with rock and metal it seems, is that the vast majority of those involved are genuine people with a love for what they do. Of course there are exceptions but on the whole, it has been a very rewarding experience.

I’m not one to name-drop but Zakk Wylde, Devin Townsend and Robb Flynn have all been wonderfully polite and fascinating interviewees.

In more recent months, I have started writing for a couple of websites too, namely ThisIsNotAScene http://www.thisisnotascene.com/ and Ghost Cult http://www.ghostcultmag.com/. I love writing about music and although I currently do so unpaid, it is no secret that one day I’d like to make a little bit of cash from it. In the meantime though, I continue to work hard and enjoy the experiences put in front of me.

Some of you may be wondering about my moniker, as it’s a little unusual. I can assure you that it is not a calculated self-aggrandising name, but rather a nickname I was given by my late brother many years ago. He was proud of his big brother and his music collection and the name stuck fast. I am extremely proud to be the ‘Man Of Much Metal’ and I hope you will join me on this new blog journey as I explore rock and metal from my personal perspective.

Cheers,

Matt AKA The Man Of Much Metal
